The Madonna in the style of Raphael, patinated, colored and gilded ceramic, is an item handcrafted according to the oldest traditions of the craft.
To obtain cold-painted ceramics, the base is mainly terracotta objects produced with majolica clay: it is a smoother clay and allows for easier painting of the object.
Initially, we give the object a white background.
Subsequently, we hand-color it using water-based tempera paints.
The artist mixes the colors to bring the object to life, reproducing, for example, the flesh tone.
To conclude, we apply a protective layer to best preserve the previously applied colors and apply a coat of wax where needed to age the object.
Therefore, the object will have vivid and slightly shiny colors, just like in a painting.
Gold is applied to the object.
We do not apply simple imitation gilding: an alcohol-based varnish applied to silver leaf to make the silver resemble gold.
We use real gold and silver leaf with a very long application process.
In fact, as a first step, we apply a burgundy red background that will be used for the points where the gold leaf will not (intentionally) adhere to the object.
Subsequently, we must apply a sizing (a sticky liquid) to the item so that the gold and silver leaf can adhere.
Finally, for the finishing touch, we give it an antique look and protect it with waxes that will give it a shiny appearance.
Our ceramics will embellish your living rooms and walls with unique pieces of Tuscan art!
